Personal Safety Collaboration Program Communique
The Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) recently celebrated 10 successful years as a safety authority in the Oil Sands region. Over the last decade, OSSA has been expanding its training availability, and implementing several new initiatives. Two years ago, OSSA, which represents the combined effort and commitment of four energy companies: Canadian Natural, Shell Albian Sands, Suncor Energy Inc. and Syncrude Canada Ltd. launched the Personal Safety Collaboration Program (PSCP).
The PSCP will further enable OSSA to continue its evolution as an influential organization that:
- Drives a culture of safe and efficient operations
- Values the strength of collaboration and continuous improvement
- Leverages the best minds and processes globally to drive world class performance
…So that every worker goes home safely.
As part of the journey, OSSA and the PSCP are now taking further steps to increase personal safety performance and improve OSSA’s service delivery model in the industry. With the assistance of Accenture, DuPont, IBM, Keyano College, and Oliver Wyman, the next six months of work will move from a conceptual design phase through to a detailed design. The detailed design phase will be followed by an implementation phase which is expected to take 18 to 24 months. During this time, ongoing OSSA operations continue as they do today including initiatives and projects such as the rollout of the Regional Safety Rules and Basic Safety Orientation.
The PSCP has and will continue to engage with many key individuals during the detailed design phase, including subject matter experts from many sectors in the industry. Contractor companies, training providers and labour will continue to be asked to contribute their respective knowledge through the next phases of the PSCP.
We look forward to developing these exciting opportunities for OSSA and our industry.
